Digital ADA Compliance Checklist

What is ADA Compliance?

“ADA” is an acronym for the Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires businesses
and website owners to make accommodations for people with disabilities in all their web
content.

Why Is it Important?

Just like there are laws in the physical world to accommodate people with disabilities, the law also now says that all web content should be accessible to the blind, deaf, and those who must navigate by voice, screen readers or other assistive technologies.

It can be easy to just think it's not a big deal or nothing to worry about as a small business owner. This law has quietly been in force for over a decade, but then in 2018 a supreme court judgment was passed on a website owner for non-compliance.

This caused a sudden surge in businesses and website owners being sued for noncompliance with ADA. So it's not something we can just ignore anymore, even as small business owners.

When GDPR came around, everyone went around running like a chicken with their heads cut off, but we had a deadline to get things in order for that.

Unfortunately, unlike GDPR, The ADA law requires no notice before a lawsuit is filed against a company for non-compliance.
